Prometheus Cave was mapped by Georgian speleologists in 1984 and then waited twenty-seven years for its first ticketed visitor. The chambers beneath Kumistavi opened to the public in 2011, wired with coloured lamps and fitted with a concrete walkway that traces an underground river through a sequence of show halls.
